What does WTR mean in packaging?

WTR stands for Water Vapor Transmission Rate. It shows how much water vapor passes through the packaging material within 24 hours. The lower the WTR value, the better the packaging keeps moisture out.

Why is a low WTR value important?

A low WTR value helps preserve taste, aroma, texture and quality for longer. This is especially important for products that are sensitive to moisture.

For which products is WTR important?

WTR is important for products where moisture affects quality, shelf life or ease of use. Think of snacks that need to stay crispy, powders that should not clump and products such as coffee, tea or herbs where aroma is important.

Are recyclable stand-up pouches also moisture-resistant?

Yes, they can be. The level of protection depends on the material and structure of the pouch. PouchDirect also offers recyclable stand-up pouches with strong moisture protection.

How do I choose the right pouch with good WTR protection?

Look at your product, desired shelf life and storage conditions. Not sure which pouch is best? Order free samples or ask our packaging experts for advice.
