What PouchDirect does
Future-ready packaging for a sustainable future
The world of packaging is changing fast. Where packaging used to be mainly functional, today it’s about its impact on the environment and society. From plastic soup and CO₂ emissions to food waste and deforestation, packaging plays a bigger role than many think. What does PouchDirect do? We supply stand-up pouches and flexible packaging with sustainability built into the strategy.
Our vision: from buzzword to foundation
Terms like reduce, reuse, recycle, circularity and renewable resources are no longer buzzwords. They are the basis of a modern packaging strategy. Consumers expect sustainable choices, governments set stricter rules, and companies want packaging that works and is responsible. What does PouchDirect do? We connect smart material choices with practical implementation so packaging becomes part of the solution.
Level 1: the basics with reduce, reuse, recycle
Sustainability starts with the well-known 3 Rs. Our solutions use fewer resources, enable reuse and are highly recyclable. With lightweight, efficient packaging you lower CO₂ emissions, transport costs and waste volumes.
Reduce, less material, less impact
We advise efficient formats and smart designs so you need less material without compromising protection.
Reuse, longer use through reclosure
Resealable stand-up pouches help keep products fresh for longer and reduce losses during production and logistics.
Recycle, monomaterial as the starting point
We steer towards monomaterial PE or PP that fits well with existing collection and treatment streams in many European countries.
Level 2: circularity and material innovation
What does PouchDirect do? We design packaging with circularity as the starting point, from raw material back to raw material. Where possible we choose recyclable monomaterials, recycled content and responsible alternatives.
- Monomaterials – PE or PP that can be mechanically recycled.
- Recycled content – rPE and rPP used circularly as they become available and appropriate.
- Compostable options – for specific uses, for example bio-food.
- Paper alternatives – mainly for non-food, provided they are recyclable in the paper stream.
We limit complex multi-layer combinations where we can. Where natural feedstocks can be used responsibly, we prefer them and avoid fossil options if an equivalent is available.

Level 3: environmental impact across the chain
What does PouchDirect do? We look beyond the pouch itself. We aim for lower climate impact, careful water use and the prevention of waste.
Climate and the greenhouse effect
We choose light packaging and efficient processes to limit energy use. We also support CO₂-compensation projects such as Trees for All and JustDiggit.
Water and biodiversity
We pay attention to efficient material use and sourcing. For paper, FSC is the standard. This helps prevent deforestation and protects biodiversity.
Tackling food waste
High-barrier solutions protect against oxygen, light and moisture. This extends shelf life and reduces waste throughout the chain.
Level 4: innovation in recycling
Recycling is evolving quickly. What does PouchDirect do? We design for the best available routes today and factor in the innovations of tomorrow.
Mechanical recycling as the base
Monomaterials fit existing treatment streams. PE and PP can be used again in a wide range of applications.
Chemical recycling where needed
For complex structures, chemical recycling can be an option, though it requires a lot of energy. We therefore avoid these materials where possible.
Microplastics and collection
We avoid materials that contribute to microplastic pollution. We actively advise on separation and reuse, matched to each country’s system.

Level 5: think globally, act locally
PouchDirect operates in multiple countries. That is why we tailor our advice to local rules and infrastructure, so solutions work in practice.
Netherlands, advice for source separation
We help you make choices that match source separation and the Dutch processing chain for plastics and paper.
Belgium, optimising for post-sorting
We recommend packaging that performs well in Belgian sorting facilities, with clear instructions for collection and labelling.
Switzerland, focus on mono-PE
We advise on packaging that meets Switzerland’s strict requirements, with an emphasis on mono-PE solutions.
We also support initiatives with global impact, such as Trees for All, The Ocean Cleanup and JustDiggit. Our carrier DPD ships CO₂-neutral, and other carriers are progressively adjusting their policies to reduce emissions.
Range and approach: moving with market and planet
From monomaterial and recycled plastics to compostable pouches and paper alternatives, our range moves with what the market and the planet ask for. What does PouchDirect do? We link this to expert advice and clear implementation in your process.
