Why choose stand-up pouches?

Stand-up pouches, also known as doypacks, are a smart choice for many food and non-food products. The stable bottom gusset allows the pouch to stand upright on its own. That gives your product a neat, professional presentation on the shelf, at a market stand or in your webshop.

They are practical too. Stand-up pouches are lightweight and flexible. They take up less space than jars, tins or rigid plastic containers. That helps you save storage space and makes shipping easier.

The right material structure protects your product against external influences. Think of moisture, oxygen, light or aroma loss. Which products are stand-up pouches suitable for?

Stand-up pouches work well for dry, pourable and portionable products. They are easy to fill, easy to close and practical for your customer to use. Popular applications include:

• coffee beans, espresso and ground coffee

• nuts, dried fruit and snacks
• granola, muesli and cereals
• protein powder and supplements

Not every product needs the same pouch. Is your product sensitive to light? Then an opaque or metallised pouch is often the better choice. Want to show the product inside? Choose a stand-up pouch with a window. Looking for packaging with recycling in mind? Then mono-material packaging is often a strong route.

Stand-up pouches for coffee

For coffee, packaging makes a big difference. Freshly roasted beans release gases. At the same time, oxygen and moisture can affect the aroma. That is why we often recommend coffee pouches with a one-way valve.

The valve allows roasting gases to escape from the pouch, without letting unnecessary oxygen in. Combined with the right barrier, this helps protect the coffee aroma.

For coffee, you usually choose between metallised pouches, kraft paper pouches with a barrier or mono-material pouches with an EVOH barrier. The best option depends on your product, brand positioning and sales channel.

Want to start smaller? Then a standard stand-up pouch from stock with a label or sticker is often the smartest route. This allows you to test size, look and market response before moving into a larger custom run. When using recyclable mono-material pouches, also pay attention to your label. If you use a PE-based pouch, for example, a PE label often fits the material structure better. This helps the packaging stay better aligned with recycling.
