Migration Report

What is it, what is it used for, and when can we provide it?

A migration report is a document detailing the amount of substances that migrate from the packaging material into the food or product it touches. This report is crucial for food safety and is compiled based on strict regulations, such as Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, which guarantee the safety of food contact materials.

Availability of migration reports

  • Stock items: We have migration reports available for all stock items that come into contact with food. These reports can be provided upon request and give you peace of mind regarding our products' compliance.
  • Custom packaging or special requests: For custom packaging or special requests, we can compile migration reports for a fee. This might be necessary if the packaging is tailored to specific customer requirements.
  • Requesting samples: Customers are also welcome to request samples of our products so they can test them (or have them tested) themselves. This offers extra reassurance about the packaging's suitability for their specific application.

When can we provide a migration report?

The delivery time for a migration report depends on the product type and the required tests. For stock items, we can usually provide the reports quickly. For custom products, the timeframe depends on the specific tests that need to be run. In any case, we work with certified labs to ensure the reports meet the required standards.

Our CTI (Chemical Testing Institute) reports contain detailed information about substance migration. You can easily submit them to the relevant authorities or use them for your quality documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Why do I need a migration report for my food packaging?

If you sell food products, you're legally required to prove that your packaging is safe. The migration report forms the basis of your declaration of compliance. You'll often need this document for audits, quality checks, and to reassure your buyers that the packaging won't release any harmful substances into the product.

Can I request a migration report from PouchDirect in the Netherlands?

Absolutely. From our headquarters in Epe (the Netherlands), we provide CTI (Chemical Testing Institute) migration reports for all our stock items intended for food contact. Since we have the largest stock of stand-up pouches in Europe, we can supply the documentation for these standard items very quickly upon request.

Are there any costs involved in requesting a migration report?

Customers buying standard stock items can receive migration reports for free upon request. However, if you have special requirements or if we're creating custom packaging for you, we can have a certified lab draw up a report specifically for your product for a fee.

How long does it take to get the CTI migration report?

The turnaround time for the report depends on your order. For products from our standard stock, we can usually deliver the document immediately or very quickly. For custom packaging, the timeframe depends on the specific lab tests needed to meet the quality standards.

Can I test the stand-up pouches for food safety myself first?

Definitely! Want to be 100% sure the material is right for your specific product or application? You can easily request samples (test pouches) from us. You're completely free to test these samples yourself (or have them tested) in a lab of your choice before placing a large order.
