What does compostable mean exactly?
Compostable means a material breaks down into compost (biomass, water and CO₂) within an agreed time, without harmful residues, but only under the right conditions. Key requirements: Time: within the specified timeframe No residues: no toxic leftovers or microplastics Conditions: sufficient heat, moisture, oxygen and micro organisms Type of claim: industrial compostable is not the same as home compostable Not sure? Let us take a look. Want to be sure your product meets composting requirements and is truly a sustainable choice for a compostable stand up pouch? Contact us. We will assess your application and advise the best solution.
Compostable vs biodegradable, what is the difference?
Biodegradable: the material breaks down through micro organisms, without a fixed timeframe or clearly defined conditions, so it can take a long time. Compostable: the material must break down within an agreed time and under specific conditions. In industrial composting, this is often within 12 weeks. Not sure if your application meets composting requirements? Contact us, we are happy to help.
Can I compost a stand up pouch at home?
Yes, as long as the conditions are right (heat, moisture, oxygen, micro organisms). At home, breakdown usually takes longer than in industrial composting. Not sure? Ask our experts for advice.
Is compostable always the most sustainable choice?
Not always. The best choice depends on your product and the waste route. Consider: Waste collection: is compostable material actually processed separately in your area? Product loss: does compostable packaging protect your product well enough? Material use: less material or recyclable mono material can be more sustainable Contamination: greasy or dirty packaging performs worse, regardless of material Not sure? Let our experts review your case and choose the option with the lowest environmental impact for your application.
When does compostable make sense?
For specific applications and where composting is available (for example an organic waste route or industrial composting). Not sure? We are happy to advise whether it fits your product.
Do you supply compostable stand up pouches?
Yes, for selected applications. We will discuss requirements such as protection, so it fits your product and the waste route. Please note availability: we do not supply from stock (due to minimum shelf life dates and the limited composting route in practice). We produce on request for customers where compostable packaging demonstrably works. Want advice? Plan a short call. We will check your application and propose a suitable option.
Which labels or standards matter?
Think of industrial composting standards. We help you choose the right markings and instructions.
